Dr. Ofer Israeli

 OFER ISRAELI is a geostrategist – an international security policy and Middle East expert (https://sites.hevra.haifa.ac.il/oferisraeli/). He teaches international relations theory, foreign policy decision making, and the Middle East at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, and the University of Haifa. In 2009-2011 Dr. Israeli was a Visiting Researcher at the Center for Peace & Security Studies (CPASS) at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (SFS). His postdoctoral research is in the field of Complexity of International Relations.

Dr. Israeli has written extensively about international security. He has published many articles that have appeared in academic journals, such as Israel Affairs, Middle East Policy, and Middle Eastern Studies, as well as popular academic magazines including American Diplomacy. His first book, Theory of War: System Stability and Territorial Outcomes (Tel Aviv, Israel: Resling, 2017) [Hebrew], is a 2017-18 Winner of Chaikin Prize in Geostrategy, University of Haifa (http://www.resling.co.il/book.asp?book_id=974). His forthcoming books are Complex Effects of International Relations: Intended and Unintended Consequences of Intentional Human Actions, and International Relations Theory of War, 1816-2016. Additionally he has written many op-ed pieces for daily newspapers and he often appears as a special international affairs and Middle East commentator on national and international T.V. and Radio Channels. Dr. Israeli’s articles, op-ed pieces, and T.V. & Radio interviews deal with topics including Israel’s security and foreign policy, the Middle East and the Arab world, Iran nuclear program, and the U.S. foreign policy and its involvement in the Middle East.

In 2008 Dr. Israeli participated in the Special Program on “U.S. National Security Policymaking in the 21st Century,” sponsored by Fulbright and managed by The U.S. Department of State. He also received grants and fellowships from The Leonard Davis Institute for International Relations, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and The University of Haifa, Israel.

As part of his security duties, Dr. Israeli deals with issues of strategic planning and national security policy.
